The first meeting of the British Peruvian Trade and Investment Group (BPTIG) took place on Wednesday 21st February 2008. The meeting featured two speakers on economic outlook and financial services, Ms. Bronwen Brown, a specialist on Peru at the Economist Intelligence Unit, and Mr. Malcolm Brown, Chief Operating Officer at HSBC Bank in Peru.
During the meeting, Ms. Bronwen Brown briefed the members of the TIG on the strengths of the Peruvian economy and shared the EIU's projections for Peru for 2008. Mr. Malcolm Brown presented HSBC's experience in the Peruvian financial sector, detailing the strategies and approaches the bank had to take in the last few years to achieve a successful entry.
The British-Peruvian Trade and Investment Group (TIG) is an important mechanism for the promotion of bilateral economic and commercial relations between the two countries. Its Chairman is Mr. Richard Ralph, former British Ambassador to Peru (2003-06).The Peruvian Ambassador is Honorary President and Viscount Montgomery of Alamein is its Honorary Vice-President.
The TIG is closely affiliated with the Embassy of Peru in the UK and its Trade and Investment Department.It holds several meetings a year at regular intervals, at which presentations and briefings are given by specialists on key themes such as economic perspectives, financial services, the extractive industries, pharmaceuticals, tourism, agro-industry, etc. These meetings are open to anyone with an interest in attending; no fee is payable for attendance, or for membership.
