TRAINS TO MACHU PICCHU WILL START RUNNING IN APRIL


February 9th, 2009.- The Minister of Foreign Commerce and Tourism, Martín Pérez, informed that the situation of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu is as following:

1. According to Peru Rail (company which runs the trains to Machu Picchu) and the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the railway and the alternative route via Santa Teresa, will re-open in the first week of April.

2. The National Institute of Culture, INC, and the National Service of Natural Areas protected by the State, SERNANP, have announced in an official communication that the access to Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail have been suspended until the safety conditions and infrastructure allow it.

3. Helicopter flights are authorised exclusively for supply purposes and services to Aguas Calientes town.

4. Additionally, he informed that the campaign ‘Cusco Pone’. Its first stage is focused on promoting the national tourism with excellent prices in flight tickets and hotels. In the near future, the campaign will promote Cuzco within Latin America and other significant markets.
