PERU TODAY |
| |
Newsletter of the Peruvian Embassy in the UK |
No.1, February - March 2009
|
Dear readers,
We start this first issue of the year with the same energy and enthusiasm as in the beginning, and dedicated to our mission of delivering to you the latest information and activities of Peru in the United Kingdom. During this 2009, we will continue trying to improve the newsletter with your valuable feedbacks and suggestions.
A report on the Peru-U.S. free trade agreement, which represents an important achievement for opening up trade and investment opportunities for both countries, has been especially prepared for this number. In addition, a clear description of the Fiscal Stimulus Package launched by the Peruvian Government is included.
Machu Picchu was elected in 2007 as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and this year the Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca and the Amazon River are competing for ‘The New Seven Wonders of Nature’. You can find more about their nomination in the news section.
We are pleased to receive in April the visit of the renowned Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, who will participate at ‘The Sunday Times Oxford Literature Festival’. He will also be giving a lecture on the occasion of the 400 anniversary of the publication of the ‘Royal Commentaries of the Incas’ by Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. Find out more about these activities in our events calendar.
And starting its new season, Cinema at the Embassy presents two new short films from Peruvian directors: ‘King of London’ by Valeria Ruiz in February, and ‘Danzak’ by Gabriela Yepes in March, followed by the films ‘Pantaleón y las visitadoras’ and ‘Tinta Roja’ by Francisco Lombardi, respectively.
We really hope you enjoy being part of ‘Peru Today’ this 2009.
