FOREIGN INVESTORS CONTINUE BETTING ON PERU

ROAD NETWORK No. 4

  12/19/2008 Press Release (Proinversion)

Lima, December 18, 2008-. ProInversión awarded the Road Network Nº 4 project to OHL Concesiones consortium. This section of the current North Pan-American Highway is part of the Sun Highway that will connect Lima, capital city, to the northern area of the country, which is characterized by a permanent tropical weather. Road Network Nº 4 connects the Departments of Lima, Ancash and La Libertad. The project aims at the operation and maintenance of the current Pan-American highway between Pativilca and the Salaverry detour, at the entrance of the city of Trujillo, as well as the construction of the second track of such section.

Last Tuesday, six short-listed bidders submitted their proposals. The competition factor in this bid was the commitment to construct more continuous kilometers of the second track, over the required 170 minimum kilometers. Four bidders offered a maximum of 113.42 new additional kilometers. As set forth in the tender documents, a second stage began and each bidder stated the number of additional works it could offer from a list of 21 pre-defined works. Three bidders offered 18 additional works. OHL Concesiones SL, the winning consortium, undertook to build 20 works that include eight roundabouts, four pedestrian bridges, five grade separations and three beltways in the cities of Huarmey, Casma and Viru-Chao.

The event was attended by the President of the Council of Ministers, Yehude Simon, the Minister of Transportation and Communication, Enrique Cornejo, the Vice-Minister of Transportation, Carlos Puga, and the Executive Director of PROINVERSION.

“This positive response of the private sector is important for our country, as it takes place during the world’s financial crisis, evidencing that Peru’s economy has the conditions to generate trust among national and foreign investors,” said PROINVERSION Executive Director, Mr. Luis Carlos Rodríguez.

Short-listed bidders that submitted their technical and economic proposals included:

  Concesionaria del Sur (Peru-Ecuador)

  Consorcio Concesionaria Panamericana (Venezuela-Colombia)
