PERU WILL HOST THE FIRST REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON ILLEGAL WILDLIFE TRADE IN 2019

Peruvian Minister of Agriculture, Gustavo Mostajo, attended the IV Illegal Wildilfe Trade Conference 2018 (IWT) held on 11 -12 October in London, which gathered delegates from 80 countries.

Minister Mostajo had a meeting with Therese Coffey, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, who acknowledged the progress made by Peru through the National Strategy to Reduce Illegal Wildlife Trade and expressed her gratitude for co-chairing the Americas meeting carried out during the Conference.

At the end of the IWT Conference 2018, Minister Mostajo confirmed that Peru will host the first regional conference in Latin America focused on IWT in 2019, supported by up to £50,000 of UK government funding. Likewise, Peru adopted the London 2018 Declaration committing to action to protect endangered species around the globe.
