President Martin Vizcarra highlighted that the Quellaveco copper project will have a revitalizing effect on the Peruvian economy through an investment of US$ 5.3 billion, equivalent to almost 2.4% of Peru's GDP.

The megaproject carried out by Anglo American will create more than 10,000 direct and 30,000 indirect jobs, therefore it will not only benefit the region of Moquegua through mining tax revenues but across the Southern region and the rest of Peru.

Mine construction will take place between 2018 - 2022 and the copper production is expected to start in 2022 with 300,000 tons of copper per year during the first decade, which will represent 15% of Peru's national copper production.
