FRUITFUL MEETING BETWEEN AMBASSADOR GAMARRA AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE INTERNATIONAL COFFEE ORGANIZATION


On 28th February, Ambassador Juan Carlos Gamarra had a meeting with Mr Jose Sette, Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), the main intergovernmental organization for coffee, based in London.

The meeting took place ahead of the 124º Session of the ICO Council to be held from 25 to 29 March 2019 in Nairobi, Kenia, where Peru will be represented by Ambassador Gamarra.

The International Coffee Organization gathers 44 exporter countries and 6 importer members (including the European Union) which represent 98% of world production and 67% of world consumption, as well as associations of producers, coffee experts and non-governmental organizations.

The coffee sector is very important for Peru, where more than 236,000 families depend on the grain. Coffee is produced in 16 regions across the country and nowadays Peruvian coffee is well known for its unique quality in the international market.

Peru is also the second top producer of organic coffee in the world.
