‘COOKING UP DREAMS’ - Film screening
Cine Latino, the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, King’s College London and the Embassy of Peru in the United Kingdom proudly present the screening of Cooking Up Dreams!
Peru is in the midst of a gastronomic revolution. A social movement that has brought dramatic and wide-reaching changes, but which has been made over pots and in kitchens rather than in the mountains or battlefields. In his documentary "De Ollas y Sueños" (Cooking Up Dreams) renowned Peruvian director Ernesto Cabellos, presents his country's spectacular cuisine and asks himself: can an entire nation be represented by its cuisine? This documentary journeys for answers to the kitchens of Peru's coast, highlands and jungle, as well as Peruvian expat communities in Paris, London, Amsterdam and New York.
Cooking Up Dreams (2009) isn't just about food – it’s about social and cultural integration, poverty and wealth, challenge and success.
The screening, with English subtitles, will be followed by a Q&A with film director Ernesto Cabellos.
The Q&A will be hosted by Peruvian filmmaker Karoline Pelikan and Dr. Elisa Sampson Vera Tudela, Senior Lecturer in Latin American Studies at King's College London.
WHEN: Thursday 13th June 2019, 11.00 - 13.30
